Women’s Basketball rolls to win over Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore guard Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) recorded game highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds to help pace the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team to a 63-46 win over Wentworth in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Tansey Gymnasium.

The two teams went back and forth over the first three minutes of the contest and the score was tied at 4-all when senior forward Paige Congdon (Westwood, Mass.) hit a layup for the Hawks. Bovee would hit two free throws 1:40 later to give Roger Williams a 6-4 lead they would not relinquish.

Leading by one (8-7) with 12:21 left in the half the Hawks went on a 14-3 run to build the lead up to 12 (22-10) on a steal and basket from freshman guard Amanda Keane (Wilmington, Mass.) Roger Williams, which shot 44.4 percent from the floor and held the Leopards to 25.8 percent over the first 20:00, led by 14 (34-20) at the break.

Roger Williams led by as many as 20, on a Bovee basket, with 6:53 remaining. However, the Leopards eventually trimmed the lead to as few as 12 with 1:35 remaining on a sophomore guard Danielle Miranda (Westbrook, Maine) basket. However, four straight points by freshman guard Lauren Stumper (Simsbury, Conn.) halted the comeback.

Stumper finished the game with 10 points, while Congdon had six points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, and three steals. The Hawks shot 57.9 percent from the floor in the second half and 50 percent for the game, while holding a 44-33 rebounding edge.

Wentworth was led by sophomore forward Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) and junior forward Jordan Biggar (Beverly, Mass.), who each scored 18 points. Kerr had 10 rebounds, three assists, and four steals, while Biggar had five rebounds.

With the win the Hawks improve to 7-6 (4-2 CCC) and host Nichols on Tuesday night. Wentworth drops to 0-13 (0-6) and is at Salve Regina on Tuesday.
