Roger Williams Shuts Out the University of New England

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – In front of a capacity homecoming crowd Roger Williams shut out the University of New England in a 2-0 contest.  The loss drops the UNE Nor 'easterners to 6-9-1 overall and 2-5-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play while the RWU Hawks improve to 13-4-0 overall and 7-1-0 in the CCC action. 

The Hawks controlled the action in the game and led the statistical battle in shots (29-4) and corner kicks (5-1).  The Hawks created pressure in all areas of the field creating turnovers and dominating in possession for a majority of the contest. 

At 34:06 in the first half Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine) passed the ball across the box to James Sheldon (Amherst, N.H.) who fired a shot to the right corner for his eighth goal of the season and to put the Hawks up 1-0.  The Hawks second goal came shortly after the start of the second period when Hoxsie finished a penalty kick to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead at the 48:30 mark.

UNE Goalkeeper, Aidan McParland (Brockville, Ontario) had six saves on the day in the loss while Hawks keeper, Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.)

Coach Jim Cook commented, "We were consistent in our effort today and controlled the tempo of the game.  We rotated a lot guys on and off the field for this team win."

Both the Hawks and the Nor 'easterners are back in action on Tuesday, October 23 with UNE at Eastern Nazarene for a 7:00 p.m. contest in Quincy, Mass. and Hawks taking on Curry College at 7:00 p.m.in Milton, Mass. to conclude CCC regular season play.
