Women’s Basketball gets back on winning track

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team took a 32-19 halftime lead on the way to a 69-46 non-conference victory over Colby College on Sunday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Alexandria Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) had 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting in addition to a game-high six assists. Lanieri added five rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals. Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, Pa.) also had 18 points, thanks to 5-for-8 shooting from 3-point range.

Roger Williams (2-4) shot 55 percent from the field (24-for-44), 55 percent from 3-point range (6-for-11), and 94 percent from the foul line (15-for-16). The Hawks had 19 assists on their 24 made field goals.

Colby senior tri-captain Diana Manduca (Portland, Maine) had a game-high 20 points to go along with two assists, two blocked shots, and two steals.

The Hawks led 16-5 after just 6:30 of play, with Kilzi hitting two 3-point shots during that stretch. The Mules cut the lead to 25-19 on a basket by Manduca with 1:32 to intermission. However, Roger Williams went on a 7-0 run in the final 1:16 of play for the 32-19 margin.

The Hawks stayed focused early in the second half and pushed the lead to 52-26 after Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) hit a jumper with 11:43 to play.

Colby did cut the lead to 15 points at 56-41 with 5:25 left in the second half. The Hawks, though, went 8-for-8 at the foul line in the final 4:11 to steadily add to the lead.

Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) added 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for Roger Williams. Ariola had six points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

Brooke Chandor (Barrington, Ill.) had her best game of the season with 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting from the field and a 2-for-2 effort from the foul line for Colby. Carylanne Wolfington (Hallowell, Maine) had six points, six rebounds, and a pair of assists.
