MIT outlasts Men’s Soccer

Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT broke a 1-1 tie with two unanswered goals to come away with a 3-1 win over the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team Wednesday evening.

MIT raised its record to 5-2, while Roger Williams lowered its mark to 5-2.

The team got off to a good start against Roger Williams at home on Wednesday night with a goal by freshman Austin Freel (San Diego, Calif.) after a cross from senior Chris Hammond (Wilmington, Del.) 15 minutes into the first half.

Just 10 minutes after the first goal, Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine) scored what would turn out to be the sole Hawks' goal. Thirty seconds later, sophomore John Kramer (Glastonbury, Conn.) netted the ball again, scoring his first goal of the season with the help of classmate Alex Dago (Chicago, Ill.) and Hammond. Keeper Tom Mangels had to make only one save and sophomore goalie Sam Cannon (Scarsdale, N.Y.) saved two before the end of the first period, leaving MIT ahead, 2-1.

The first 40 minutes of the second half passed with no change in the score, the ball switching possession every few seconds. After two blocked shots at goal, Dago was finally able to sink the ball into the net on his third attempt after a cross from senior Ben Lewis (West Hartford, Conn.) with less than two minutes remaining. The Hawks were unable to catch up with such little time left and MIT was ultimately victorious.

The Engineers will travel to Emmanuel College on Saturday, Sept. 22 for a game at 1:00, while Roger Williams will travel to Nichols earlier that day.
