Hawks Sweep the UNE and Keene State in Tri-Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Volleyball team sweeps the University of New England and Keene State in tri-match competition improving their overall record to 11-7 and 3-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. Keene State split their matches on the day and has an overall record of 9-9.  UNE was winless at the event and drops to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in CCC play.

In the opening match of the event Roger Williams by sweeping UNE in Commonwealth Coast Conference play (25-14, 25-9, and 25-20).  The Hawks hit .366 on the match and were paced with 12 kills form the duo of Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.), Kelsey Twarog (Barkhamsted, Conn.) who had 12 kills respectively.  Abby Cunningham (Catasauqua, Pa.) added 11 kills while Elizabeth Flaherty (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) anchored the floor defense with 15 digs.  The Nor 'easterners were led by Leah Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) had 7 kills and hit .412 on the match.

In the second match of the day the Keene State Owls outlasted the Noreasterners in a non-conference regional match (20-25, 25-21, 8-25, 25-17, 13-15).  The trio of Sammy Dormio (Leesburg, VA), Angela Silveri (Poughquag, NY), and Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, MA) provided the offensive firepower foe the Owls with 19, 13, 10 Kills respectively with Kaitlin Boyer (W. Greenwich, RI) patrolled the backcourt and picking up 17 digs.  Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Janelle led the Nor 'easterners attack with 17 and 13 kills with Maria Keuhl (Middleton, N.H.) with double digit assist (38) and digs (10).

In the final match RWU swept Keene State (25-14, 25-17, and 25-16). Twarog led the Hawks with 12 kills while Flaherty posted double digit kills (10) and digs (13).  Loche kept the ball off the floor while averaging 6 digs per game.  The Owls hit .017 on the match but received double digit digs by Boyer and Alexis Michaels (Windham, N.H.).

The Hawks return to action for three road play dates next week.  On Tuesday, October 2nd the Hawks will take on Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference action in Milton, Mass. at 6pm. On Thursday, October 4th the Hawks will be in New London at Coast Guard for a regional non-conference match at 7pm contest.  On Saturday, the 6th the Hawks will take on Wesleyan at 2:30pm and Trinity at 5:00pm in a non-conference regional tri-match.
