Men’s Soccer knocks off Rhode Island College 6-1

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team notched a 6-1 victory over in-state rival Rhode Island College Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

The win for the Hawks improves RWU to 3-1-0 on the season, while Rhode Island College drops to 1-2-0.

Bradley Macdonald (Topsfield, Mass.) started things off for the Hawks in the 10th minute. Macdonald took a pass from Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine) into the box, dribbled around a defender, and put in his first goal of the season to give RWU an early 1-0 lead.

Andrew Carlson (Ridgefield, Conn.) came through next with back-to-back goals in the 22nd and 26th minute to put the Hawks on top by three. The pair of goals for the Hawks were his first two scores on the season, as well.

The Anchormen were able to get on the board in the 34th minute, when Kevin Arboleda (Pawtucket, R.I.) headed in a free kick by Brian Sujecki (Pawcatuck, Conn.) into the middle of the net to pull within two.

However, the Hawks responded five minutes with two goals within a 40-second span. Darren McCall (Willington, Conn.) picked up a cross from Tyler Peckham (Coventry, R.I.) at the 39:28 mark to make it a 4-1 game. Then, 34 seconds later, James Sheldon (Amherst, N.H.) took a long pass from Mark Cassese (Taunton, Mass.) and scored in the box to put the Hawks up by four.

The second half saw only one goal scored, with Sheldon putting in his second score of the day in the 84th minute off of a pass by Tyler Sharby (Goffstown, N.H.).

Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.) tallied his second win of the year, allowing one goal with three saves in the first half. Tom Mangels (Garden City, N.Y.) and Kevin Oliveira (Bristol, R.I.) split time in net in the second half, with Mangels stopping six shots.

Anchorman keeper Christopher Duarte (Cumberland, R.I.) allowed six goals in the loss, while making seven saves in the game.

Roger Williams travels to Framingham State on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. matchup, while Rhode Island College hosts Endicott Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
