Women’s Basketball soars to win over Gordon

Box Score

WENHAM, Mass. — Hosting the Hawks of Roger Williams University tonight in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) duel, the Fighting Scots were felled by their guests, 69-41, to drop to 2-11, 0-6 in conference on the year. The win puts the Hawks over .500 overall (7-6) and at an even 3-3 in league play.

Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) led all scorers with an outstanding 26 points to go with 10 rebounds and three steals, while Alexandria Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) was the Hawks' next highest scorer with 10 points. Overall Roger Williams shot 37 percent from the floor en route to the 28-point victory.

Gordon saw three players reach double digits in the effort, as Brooke Kratche (Chagrin Fall, Ohio) and Clancey Adams (Simsbury, Conn.) led the way with 11 points apiece and Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) recorded 10.

The Hawks took command of the game early as Bovee and Lanieri combined for 11 points while holding the Scots to two in the opening five minutes of action. With the Scots struggling to keep pace offensively, that gap widened further throughout the half to leave Roger Williams with a substantial 41-17 advantage at the midway point.

Despite the deficit, the Scots got their offense going in the second with Kranyak netting eight of her 10 points and Adams hitting five to guide the comeback effort. The Hawks were steady on their offensive end as well, however, receiving eight points off the bench from Ari Renwick (Westwood, Mass.) to outscore Gordon, 28-24, in the frame and preserve the victory.

The Scots are on the road at Salve Regina for a CCC matchup on Saturday, January 12 at 1p.m., while the Hawks host the CCC's Wentworth on the same day also at 1p.m.
