Eight straight for Women’s Basketball

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team knocked off its eighth straight opponent, defeating Gordon College Tuesday evening by a 71-41 score.

The Hawks move to 13-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference and 13-6 overall. Gordon falls to 2-17 and remains winless in the CCC at 0-12.

RWU was paced by Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.), who finished with a game-high 18 points and four assists. Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) added 12 points and six rebounds, while Ari Renwick (Westwood, Mass.) notched eight points and eight boards. Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, Pa.) also scored in double figures with 11.

Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Pa.) led the Fighting Scots with 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Brooke Kratche (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) finished with nine points, six boards, and four dimes. Skylar Bareford (Stonington, Conn.) added seven points and a pair of rebounds.

The first half was tight early on, with five lead changes in the opening seven minutes. Both teams traded baskets, with neither team holding a lead larger than three.

Gordon took an 8-7 advantage with 15:02 to go on a jumper by Kranyak before Kilzi laid in a basket two minutes later to put RWU back on top. Gordon kept the game close for the beginning part of the period, until the Hawks turned a 16-13 lead into a 15-point advantage with 5:59 to play in the period.

Strong defense and stellar ball control by RWU helped pace the game in the early goings, as the Hawks forced 15 turnovers in the period. Conversely, the Hawks only committed two miscues in the half, with the first one not occurring until the 4:21 mark.

The second half was all Roger Williams, with the Hawks maintaining a double-digit lead throughout the entire period.

Roger Williams will travel to Curry on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. matchup, while Gordon heads to the University of New England at the same time.
