Field Hockey scores season-high seven in win over Daniel Webster

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University snapped an eight-game skid with a 7-0 victory over Daniel Webster College Monday afternoon.

The Hawks had control for the majority of the first half. The team held the Eagles without a shot in the entire first half and rarely let the ball past into their side of the field.

Despite RWU's number of offensive opportunities, the team found it difficult to convert their chances to goals. The Eagle defense swarmed to the ball inside the arc and helped limit the Hawks' clean looks at the net.

In the 12th minute, the Hawks were able to get behind the Eagle defenders, with Hailey Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) sending a pass to Sarah Link (Blossvale, N.Y.) to the left side of the goal. Link has a wide open look at the shot, but couldn't get her stick on the ball to keep the game scoreless.

The Hawks were able to break through in the 19th minute, with Stephanie Yaeger (Gansevoort, N.Y.) feeding a pass to Nicole Angeley (Norwalk, Conn.) on the left side of the goal and putting in her second score of the season.

Yaeger would later add a score of her own, chipping in a shot from the right side in the 29th minute to give RWU a 2-0 lead. The Hawks added to the lead right before the end of the first half, with Wolfe leading a one-woman breakaway down the middle of the field in the final minute of the period. Wolfe was able to make her way inside the arc and put in a shot to the left corner and give the Hawks a 3-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second minute of the second half, Meghan Curran (West Milford, N.J.) tracked a loose ball in the arc and was able to deposit a shot in the left side of the net for her fifth goal of the year. In the 44th minute, Curran found Katchen Lachmayr (Reading, Mass.) on a breakaway, feeding her a pass which Lachmayr was able to convert for her third goal of the season.

A minute later, Link knocked in a long shot from the back of the arc off of a pass from Kaitlin Massey (Mendon, Mass.) for her first career goal. Yaeger wrapped up the scoring in the 60th minute with her second goal of the day and her first multi-goal game.

Melora Lavoie (Poland, Maine) needed only one save for the win. Daniel Webster keeper Danielle Melanson (Derry, N.H.) stopped seven shots for the Eagles. Kelsie Atiyeh (Enfield, Conn.), Taylor St. Jean (Manchester, N.H.), Samantha Crooker (Gilford, N.H.), and Lauren Carrick (Pelham, N.H.) each tallied a shot for Daniel Webster.

Roger Williams (3-9) travels to Endicott on Wednesday, while Daniel Webster (0-10) hosts Becker College on Sunday.
