Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Volleyball team takes the Tom Hay Invitational Championship at Springfield College.  The Hawks who are undefeated in tournament play on the season beat the Pride of Springfield College on Friday evening in five set thriller that ended 15-13 in the final set.  On Saturday morning the Hawks dispatched Plymouth State and Westfield State in three sets each to improve to 23-1 overall.  RWU is currently ranked #24 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Coaches Poll and is ranked second in the New England Women's Volleyball Association Coaches Poll after being ranked at the top four the four weeks prior.

Senior middle blocker, Krystie Luczynski was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player collecting 37 kills with only 4 errors on 64 attempts for a .515 hitting percentage on the weekend.  She also tallied 12 blocks, 9 digs, and a service ace.  Luczynski collected her 1000th kill in the match with Springfield and ranks fourth on the career kills list.

Sophomore outside hitter, Elizabeth Flaherty and freshman middle blocker, Brittany McMullen joined Luczynski on the All-Tournament team.  Flaherty had 32 kills on 64 attempts and hit .343 in the tournament matches.  She also contributed; 6 blocks, picked up 31 digs, and 3 services aces.  Flaherty was also error free serve reception on the weekend.  McMullen had 25 kills on 41 attempts and hit .536 at the tournament.  McMullen hit .545 in the 5 set match versus Springfield collecting 12 kills on 22 attempts with no errors.

Coach Ben Somera commented, "We played our best volleyball of the season this week.  Our match with Springfield on Friday was a great test and I am extremely proud of the way our team competed on the road in a hostile environment.   There was no let down on Saturday and we continued to execute at a high level.  It was great for Krystie, Brittany and Liz to receive all-tournament honors but I am equally proud of the players who do not receive recognition but make these awards possible.  Individual success is the result of team success and each player on our roster is a part of these awards."

The Hawks will be back in action at home on Thursday, October 17th at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Saints of Emmanuel College for a non-conference regional match up.
