In the opener, Sean Boyle (Arlington, Mass.) pitched a complete game shutout for the Hawks, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing only two hits with four strikeouts. In the process, Boyle tied the RWU record for career shutouts with his third.
Offensively, RWU were paced by Reid Nelson (Wallingford, Conn.), who hit a homerun in his first at-bat as a Hawk. He finished 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Jaime Timothy (Cohasset, Mass.) finished 1-for-1 with run scored and a stolen base.
In the second game, Keene State went up 4-1 after the first three innings. The Hawks came back to bring it within one, trailing 4-5 after top of the sixth. However, the Owls added three more in the bottom of the inning to put the game away.
A.J. Bashaw (Norton, Mass.) took the loss for the Hawks, allowing four runs in 2.1 innings of work. Matt Swensen (Charlton, Mass.) finished 3-for-4 for the Hawks with two RBI. Mike Pascarella (Milford, Conn.) added two runs and a stolen base for RWU.
On Sunday against Bowdoin, the Polar Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first, then tacked on another score in the bottom of the second. RWU managed a pair of runs in the sixth but could not score again as Bowdoin held on for the win.
Brendan Telfer (Avon, Conn.) suffered the loss for the Hawks, allowing four runs in five innings while striking out six. Matt Jefferis (Cheshire, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a stolen base. Pascarella added a hit and a run scored.
In the second game of the doubleheader, RWU scored one in the bottom of the first before Bowdoin took a 2-1 lead in the third. The Polar Bears added two more in the sixth and three more in the seventh to go up 7-1. The Hawks grabbed two more in the bottom of the seventh but could not complete the comeback.
Dan Julian (Stratford, Conn.) took the loss for RWU, allowing four unearned runs in six innings of work. John Oppenhimer (Westport, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the game for the Hawks. Pascarella finished 2-for-4 for RWU, while Timothy and Rob Zarthar (Dedham, Mass.) both went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
