">LAKELAND, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team wrapped up its spring break trip with a split against Framingham State University on Saturday, falling 6-10 to the Rams before earning a 4-2 win.
In the opener, Framingham State kicked off the game with two runs in the bottom of the first before, the Hawks responded with three runs from
Shawn Cariglio (Milford, Conn.),
Reid Nelson (Wallingford, Conn.), and
Chris Travers (East Freetown, Mass.) in the second. Framingham State would get all three runs back in the bottom of the frame on William Crofton's three-RBI double.
The Hawks regained the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs in the inning highlighted by a two-RBI double by
Mike Thomas (Plainville, Conn.), but the Rams came back and tied the game at six in the bottom of the inning with one. Framingham State would then put four runs across in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and hold on for the 10-6 win.
Keith Chamberlain (Columbia, Conn.) took the loss, allowing eight runs in the game in 5.2 innings. Cariglio finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Nelson was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
In the second game, Framingham put the first score up on the board in the top of the second before the Hawks responded with an RBI double by
Rob Zarthar (Dedham, Mass.) in the bottom of the inning.
The Hawks would take the lead in the fourth, with
Tyler Campo (Wrentham, Mass.) notching a two-RBI single and
Matt Swensen (Charlton, Mass.) coming through with an RBI double to give RWU a 4-1 lead.
The Rams look poised for a comeback, putting a run across in the top of the seventh, while bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. However, a fly out to right with the bases loaded secured the win for the Hawks.
George Lund (West Hartford, Conn.) picked up the win for the Hawks, allowing only two runs (one earned) in six innings of work before
Tony Trafecanty (Franklin, Mass.) came in for a scoreless seventh for the save. Campo finished with two hits and two RBI, while
John Oppenhimer (Westport, Conn.) was 2-for-3 in the game.
Roger Williams (6-6) hosts Rhode Island College Tuesday in the Hawks' home opener.
