SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team was eliminated from the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon in a 5-1 loss to Endicott College.
Both teams held each other scoreless over the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth. Colin Sitarz got the scoring started with an RBI single to left, bringing home Harry Oringer. Tad Gold followed two batters later and knocked a two-RBI triple to right center, scoring Matthew Paola and Sitarz. After an RBI groundout by Eric Lemke, Endicott held a 4-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, the Hawks were able to get on the board, with John Oppenhimer (Westport, Conn.) bringing home Trevor Larson (Northbridge, Mass.) on an RBI single. However that would be all the Hawks could manage across the board, as Endicott got that run back in seventh and held on for the 5-1 win.
Brendan Pittsley pitched a strong outing, going eight innings and allowing one run on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Oringer finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Cody Hall was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Sean Boyle (Arlington, Mass.), making his first start since April 21, was tagged for five runs on seven hits and two walks in 7.1 innings. Larson went 2-for-4 with a run, while Oppenhimer, Mike Pascarella (Milford, Conn.), and Matt Jefferis (Cheshire, Conn.) were each 1-for-4.
Endicott (30-12) will face Salve Regina tomorrow for the right to face Western New England in the CCC Championship game, while Roger Williams ends the season with a record of 24-18.
