Men’s Soccer notches win over MIT

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 4-1 victory over MIT Wednesday evening.

The Hawks began the evening with a score in the 29th minute by Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine). Daniel Caruso (Tewksbury, Mass.) fed Hoxsie a pass, leading to a one-on-one opportunity with the MIT keeper Samuel Cannon (Scarsdale, N.Y.). Hoxsie was able to put a move around Cannon's left side and put in his first score of the game.

Cooper Allebrand (Santa Barbara, Calif.) added his third goal of the season in the closing minute of the first half. Allebrand was able to convert on a penalty kick in the 44th minute to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead to go into the break.

The Engineers pulled within one shortly into the second period. Sean Bingham (Garden City, N.Y.) took advantage of some miscommunication by the Hawk defense on a loose ball and was able to knock in the goal to make it a one-score game.

However, the Hawks jumped back ahead by two at the 69:51 mark. Trevor Sparda (Scarborough, Maine) booted the ball to Hoxsie, who was then able to maneuver his way around the defense and score his second goal of the night.

Hoxsie completed the hat trick with just under five minutes to play. He received a pass from Allebrand and one-touched past the keeper for a wide open shot on net.

Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.) picked up his fourth win of the year, making five saves on the night. Cannon finished with eight saves for MIT.

Roger Williams (6-1-0) will host Endicott while MIT (3-3-0) travels to Babson next, both games on Saturday.
