Suffolk nabs win over Women’s Basketball

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – Suffolk University pulled away late from the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team to earn a 60-53 win Tuesday evening.

A close game throughout, Suffolk broke a 47-all tie with four minutes left to go on top and hold on for the win.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball throughout the game. Suffolk was 20-for-55 for a 36.4% shooting percentage, while Roger Williams went 17-for-75 from the field (22.7%), , the team's lowest field goal percentage since 19.7% performance (12-61) against Salve Regina on January 25, 2012.

In the first half, Suffolk was held to only six points over the first 11 minutes of play, yet Roger Williams only led 16-6. The Rams managed to pull within two by the end of the period, with the Hawks leading 24-22.

For the beginning of the second half, it remained a one-possession game in favor of RWU. Rachel Battista (Johnston, R.I.) laid in a bucket at the 13:59 mark to put RWU on top 32-26, but Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) answered with a three for Suffolk.

Suffolk tied the game two more times before a pair of free throws by Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) put the Rams up by two (49-47) with 3:59 left. From there the Rams would hold off the Hawks for the remainder of the game, with RWU missing its final six shots from the field.

Quadri led all players with 18 points, along with three rebounds and three assists. Chelsea Campellone (Fall River, Mass.) was just shy of a double-double, going for 12 points and nine boards off the bench. Caitlyn Caramello (Revere, Mass.) added six points and eight rebounds.

Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) led RWU with 16 points and adding five rebounds and three steals. Teagan Dunn (Burlington, Conn.) finished with seve
n points and eight rebounds, while Mariah Nicholas (Achusnet, Mass.) had eight points and eight boards.

Roger Williams (2-3) will travel to Rhode Island College on Sunday, while Suffolk (2-3) heads to Fitchburg State next Thursday.
