Women’s Basketball ties wins record on Senior Day

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball tied the school record for wins in a season with an 80-46 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.

The victory for RWU gives the Hawks their 19th win of the year, tying the school record set by last year's team. The 2012-13 squad went on to finish 19-9 overall with a berth to the ECAC Tournament for the first time.

Prior to the game, RWU seniors Ari Renwick (Westwood, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) were honored for their contributions to the program over the past four years.

Roger Williams led from wire to wire, beginning with a pair of free throws by Bovee and Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.). The Hawk defense managed to hold the Leopards to only two points over the first seven minutes of the contest, allowing RWU to go up 12-2.

RWU ultimately held the Leopards to only 15 points in the half, going into the break holding a 21-point lead (36-15). Wentworth shot only 17.6 percent in the period, going 6-of-34 from the field along with nine turnovers.

In the second half, Wentworth fared better from the field, shooting 11-of-23 for a 47.8 percentage and putting 31 points on the board in the period. However, the Hawks connected on 18 of their 33 attempts, hitting at a 54.5 % clip. In addition, RWU outrebounded the Leopards 48-28 in the game.

Roger Williams has been dominant over its six-game winning streak. The Hawks are averaging 74 points per game over the stretch while winning by an average of 25.2 points.

All 12 players on the RWU roster registered at least two points in the game, with four players in double figures. Renwick led the way with 16 points and five assists, while Bovee went for ten points and nine rebounds. Katie Lowerre had a career-high 14 points with nine rebounds, while Ariola added ten points and four assists.

Wentworth's Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) led the team with 14 points with four rebounds. Carly Rogers (Scarborough, Maine) almost went for a double-double, finishing with seven points and ten rebounds. Rachel Camara (Fall River, Mass.) had nine points, while Ashley Stowe (Charlestown, R.I.) scored eight.

Roger Williams (19-4, 14-2 CCC) hosts Gordon next, while Wentworth (7-15, 4-12 CCC) heads to Endicott, both games on Tuesday.
