Baseball takes twin bill over Colby-Sawyer

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Colby-Sawyer fell to the Roger Williams University Baseball team in both ends of a twin bill on Thursday at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. The Hawks won game one 11-1 and followed with a 2-0 triumph in game two.
Roger Williams improves to 6-2 and plays a doubleheader with Keene State tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. The Chargers fall to 3-6 and play North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent Maine-Farmington at Polk State College. The games will count towards NAC standings.
GAME ONE – Roger Williams 11, Colby-Sawyer 1
Mike Pascarella (Milford, Conn.) gave Roger Williams a 3-0 lead in the second inning with a homerun over the right field fence with two out.
Reid Nelson (Wallingford, Conn.) increased the Hawks' advantage to 4-0 in the third with a RBI single.
Roger Williams added two runs in the fifth before Colby-Sawyer got on the board in the top of the sixth on a RBI groundout by Matt Bussard.
The Hawks then scored five runs on five hits in their half of the sixth en route to the 11-1 victory.
Nelson, Caulin Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.), Chris Travers (East Freetown, Mass.), and Mike Thomas (Plainville, Conn.) each collected a pair of hits in the game.
TJ O'Connor led Colby-Sawyer with a pair of hits in three at-bats.
Sean Boyle (Arlington, Mass.) earned his second win of the season with six strong innings of work. He gave up six hits, one run and struck out five.
Alex Drost took the loss for the Chargers, but only surrendered four earned runs in 5.1 innings.
GAME TWO – Roger Williams 2, Colby-Sawyer 0
Each team received a strong pitching performance by their respective starter. Roger Williams' George Lund (West Hartford, Conn.) earned his second win in as many tries with a complete game shutout. He surrendered just three hits and struck out seven.
Colby-Sawyer's Mike Bowse was equally as tough, allowing five hits and no earned runs. He also went the distance and struck out four.
The game's two runs came in the top of the fourth as the Hawks benefited from a pair of Colby-Sawyer miscues.
There were eight hits in the game; five by Roger Williams and three by Colby-Sawyer, with all eight coming from different players.
