Baseball pulls off split against Keene State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team took one of two over Keene State College Friday afternoon, falling 3-9 before a 6-4 victory.

In the opener, Caulin Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) scored for the Hawks in the top of the first, coming in from third on a fielder's choice from Chris Travers (East Freetown, Mass.).

The Hawks added two more in the third on runs from Travers and Jamie Timothy (Cohasset, Mass.). However, Keene State managed to tie the game at three in the bottom of the inning.

The Owls would go on top in the following inning on an RBI double by Matt Boulay. Keene State then blew the game open in the fifth, taking advantage of three Hawk errors in the inning to plate five runners and take a six-run lead. The Hawks missed an opportunity to cut the deficit in the sixth, stranding runners at second and third with only one out.

A.J. Bashaw (Norton, Mass.) suffered the loss, giving up all nine runs (three earned) in 5.1 innings of work. Rogers and Timothy each finished 1-for-2 with a run scored in the game.

The second game began in favor of Keene State. The Owls plated one run in the second, despite two Hawk errors in the inning. They would then take a 4-0 lead in the third on Tanner Chase's three-RBI double.

In the fourth, the Hawks grabbed those three runs right back, getting RBIs from Mike Thomas (Plainville, Conn.), Reid Nelson (Wallingford, Conn.), and Joe Hock (Braintree, Mass.). RWU would then add three more in the fifth, with Timothy and Travers each notching RBI singles. Nelson drew a bases-loaded walk to put RWU on top 6-4. Tyler Pogmore (Lebanon, Conn.) came on in the seventh for his fourth save of the season.

Troy DeLeon (East Hampton, Conn.) earned the win in relief, allowing only one hit and one walk in 2.2 innings of work. Timothy finished 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Travers was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

Roger Williams (7-3) wraps up its Florida trip Saturday against WPI.
