Box Score 2 EAGLE PARK, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team ended its Spring Break trip with a 6-1 win followed by a 0-17 loss to WPI Saturday afternoon.
In the opener,
Caulin Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) began things with an RBI single in the top of the first to put RWU on top 1-0. RWU's 1-0 lead held up for the following four innings until the team broke through for five runs in the fifth.
The Hawks got RBIs from
Mike Pascarella (Milford, Mass.),
Chris Travers (East Freetown, Mass.), and
Reid Nelson (Wallingford, Conn.) as part of the inning to take a 6-0 lead.
WPI added one run in the sixth inning but were unable to tack on anymore as the Hawks came away with the win.
Dan Julian (Stratford, Conn.) picked up his first win of the season, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing the one run with seven strikeouts. Nelson finished 3-for-3 at the plate, while Rogers was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
In the second game, the WPI offense went to work throughout the game. The Engineers put together five run innings in each of the first and third innings. The Engineers would go on to plate two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth to hand the Hawks its biggest loss of the year.
The Hawk offense stalled in the game, managing only six hits in the contest.
Kaelan Rayner (Westerly, R.I.) was tagged for nine runs in 2.2 innings in the loss. Pascarella was 2-for-2 in the game, while
Jamie Timothy (Cohasset, Mass.) and
Mike Thomas (Plainville, Conn.) were each 1-for-2.
The Hawks wrap up its Florida run with a record of 8-4 and will head to Rhode Island College on Tuesday.
