Baseball downs Eastern Nazarene twice on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 QUINCY, Mass. -  Eastern Nazarene dropped a doubleheader at home to the Roger Williams Baseball team Saturday afternoon at Adams Field. With losses of 11-5 and 9-1, the Lions fall to 7-10 on the spring and 1-7 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Hawks rise to 18-9 overall and 10-2 in league games.
Max Pugh (San Diego, Calif.) paced the home team with four hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Kurt Picarelli (Montrose, N.Y.) posted three base knocks and drove in two RBIs. Justin Calloway (Moore, Okla.) picked up a pair of hits on the day while Joey Napolitano (Millerton, N.Y.) added two RBIs on one base knock.
The visitors claimed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first frame. Shawn Cariglio (Milford, Conn.) sliced an RBI single down the right field line to score Caulin Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) from second base.
Roger Williams manufactured five runs in the fourth to extend its advantage to six runs, 6-0. Jamie Timothy (Cohasset, Mass.) singled down the line in right field with the bases loaded to plate Trevor Larson (Scarborough, Maine). Chris Travers (East Freetown, Mass.) cleared the bags with a three-run triple to the gap in right-center as Mike Pascarella (Milford, Conn.), Rogers and Timothy all crossed the plate. Reid Nelson (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up his first RBI of the game with a base hit up the middle to allow Travers to trot home.
Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit to four in the home half of the fourth, pushing across two runs. Pat Yee (Lynnfield, Mass.) scootered home from first base on a double to right-center by Pugh. Picarelli followed with a base knock to left to drive in Pugh.
The Hawks tacked on four scores in the fifth to reach double digits, 10-2. Pascarella plated Kevin Baker (Wilbraham, Mass.) from third with a single inside the foul line in left field. Cariglio drew a bases-loaded walk and Pascarella touched the dish on the base on balls. Nelson hammered a single through the left side of the infield with two away in the frame to drive in Timothy and Travers.
The Lions plated three runs in the sixth, pulling the score to 10-5. Jeff Greenfield (Morris Plains, N.J.) rounded third and scored on a double to right off the bat of Pugh. After Picarelli reached on a hit-by-pitch, Napolitano laced a single down the left field line to drive in Calloway and Pugh.
Roger Williams added a run in the top of the seventh, increasing its lead to 11-5. Mike Thomas (Plainville, Conn.) lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield and Travers tagged up from third.
David Manning (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) started game one on the hill and tossed four innings while fanning three batters. Nick Penkala (Nashua, N.H.) worked two thirds of an inning in his fifth relief appearance of the spring and recorded one strikeout. Doug English (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) retired one batsman in his fifth outing of the season. Pugh toed the rubber for the third time on the year and pitched the final two frames.
The Hawks opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first. Pascarella crossed the plate on a groundout by Travers. Timothy scored the away side's second run of the inning as Nelson reached base on an error. Joe Hock drove in Nelson from second with an RBI single to right-center.
Roger Williams added a run in the third to push its lead to 4-0. Rogers tagged up and scored from third base on a sacrifice fly to center by Travers.
The visitors racked up five runs in the top of the six to gain a nine-run advantage, 9-0. After Thomas doubled to right, Larson sent a single up the middle to plate Thomas from second. Timothy sliced a bases-loaded triple to right to clear the bases as Rogers, Pascarella and Larson all scored. Timothy crossed the dish with the Hawks' final run of the contest as Travers grounded out.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Manning hooked a single to right field on the first pitch he saw before stealing second base. Picarelli notched his second RBI on the afternoon, singling to right to score Manning.
Yee threw five innings in his first career start on the mound. Nathan Russell (San Diego, Calif.) worked a third of an inning in his sixth outing of the season. English and Penkala each made their second appearance on the day in game two, holding Roger Williams scoreless over an inning and two thirds.
