Box Score 2 WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior
Elizabeth Flaherty (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) collected her 1,000 career kill as part of the Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team's split against SUNY Oneonta and Babson College. The Hawks defeated SUNY Oneonta 3-2 before falling 3-1 to Babson.
Against SUNY Oneonta, Roger Williams dropped the opening set 22-25 before coming back with wins in the second and third sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-16. The Dragons pushed the match to a fifth deciding set with at 25-19 win in game four. The Hawks earned the victory by taking game five with a 15-10 win.
Kristen Boyer (Ephrata, Pa.) led the Hawks with 17 kills on the day, while
Meghan Smith (Blauvelt, N.Y.) added ten kills. Boyer and
Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) each notched five blocks while
Josalyn Benson (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished with 37 assists.
Maria Batas (Merrick, N.Y.) went for 21 digs in the match.
In the second match of the day, Babson opened with back-to-back wins in the first two sets, winning by scores of 25-21 and 25-15. Roger Williams rallied in the third game by a 25-22 margin. However, the Beavers closed out the match in the fourth set, winning 25-19.
Flaherty entered the match needing one kill to reach the milestone and finished with ten against Babson. Quilty added ten kills as well along with two blocks.
Nicole Weber (Poulsbo, Wash.) picked p 39 assists as well as three blocks. Batas led RWU with 18 blocks.
Roger Williams (14-8) will take part in the UMass-Boston Invite on Friday and Saturday, beginning with matches against Augsburg and Bowdoin on Friday.
