Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team powered to a 1-0 win over Nichols College Wednesday evening with a late goal and strong defense in the closing seconds.
RWU's
Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.) scored the eventual game-winning goal with just under three minutes left to play in the game, scoring off of a pass from
Kurt Isleib (Killingworth, Conn.).
The game was a back-and-forth affair all night, filled with strongly-contested play on the ball for both teams.
The game appeared head for extra time before Janson came through with his fourth score of the season for RWU.
Nichols nearly notched the equalizer just before the end of regulation. Jameson Exil (Paul Prince, Haiti) had his shot blocked by a Hawk defender with seconds remaining on the clock. The ball somehow found Mike Kelley (Braintree, Mass.) who put up a shot of his own, but thanks to a great save by
Nick Nelson, the Hawks managed to escape with the win.
Nelson finished with five saves in the game for RWU, while Bison keeper Patrck Porpora had four stops for Nichols.
Roger Williams (7-7-1, 3-4-0 CCC) plays its last home game game of the regular season on Saturday against Gordon. Nichols (7-9-0, 3-4-0 CCC) travels to Western New England next, also on Saturday.
