Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team came back from Thanksgiving break with an 84-59 victory Sunday evening over in-state rival Rhode Island College.
The victory for Roger Williams gives the team back-to-back home victories over the Anchorwomen, having previously defeated RIC 80-71 on December 1, 2013.
The game was close early on, with back-to-back threes by
Katie Lowerre (Sharon, Mass.) and Meghan Reall (Smithfield, R.I.). The Anchorwomen would tie the game two more times later in the quarter, at 8-8, and 14-14. After the third tie of the game, the Hawks would close out the first quarter on a 10-2 run to take an eight-point lead into the second quarter.
Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) gave RWU its biggest lead, a ten-point advantage (26-16) with a layup on RWU's first possession of the period. Rhode Island College trailed throughout the period, but managed to pull within three (35-38) going into halftime with Abbey Burke (East Greenwich, R.I.) knocking down a three at the buzzer.
Roger Williams would pull away in the third quarter, opening the session on a 13-4 run capped by a layup by
Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.). RWU would lead by as many as 17 in the quarter en route to a 63-48 lead entering the fourth. Rhode Island College would never get closer than 16 as RWU left with the 25-point win.
Quilty had a monster game with 16 points, 14 rebounds, two steals, and a block. Lowerre finished with 16 points, five assists, and five rebounds, while
Rachel Battista (Johnston, R.I.) went for 16 points off the bench. Angelica roils went for 15 points, five boards, and six assists.
Alex Moore (West Newbury, Mass.) finished with a game-high 18 point to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Devin Hill (Danielson, Conn.) added 16 points and eight boards, while Reall went for seven points, two assists, and three steals.
Roger Williams (4-2) will begin Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Wednesday, December 2 against Salve Regina University. Rhode Island College (2-3) will host Johnson & Wales on Thursday, December 3.
