Big win for Women’s Basketball over Gordon

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball clinched its largest win of the season, defeating Gordon College 73-38 Saturday afternoon.
 
Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) scored the first point of the game on a free throw for the Hawks, but the Fighting Scots quickly followed with a three-pointer from freshman Jess Ryan (Milford, N.H.) bringing the game to 3-1. The Hawks scored seven more points at the seven-minute mark with baskets from Katie Lowerre (Sharon, Mass.), Anna Walther (Northhampton, Mass.) and Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.), bringing the Hawks ahead 10-4.
 
The Hawks increased their lead by ten with four minutes left in the quarter, the score 18-8. Walther landed a jumper at 2:19 advancing the Hawks to 24-9. Olivia Vetere (Mahopac, N.Y.) hit a big three at 1:30 to keep the Fighting Scots in the game. Mary Beth Cahill (East Williston, N.Y.) ended the quarter with a three-pointer buzzer beater. The Hawks held a substantial advantage going into the second quarter at 27-13.
 
To start the second quarter Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) scored at the nine-minute mark with an assist from Ariola. The Hawks continued their streak, securing their lead over Gordon. Vetere scored on a fast-break for the Fighting Scots, bringing the score to 34-19 with four minutes to go in the quarter. Lowerre hit a three-pointer immediately after, the score now 37-19. Rebecca Ritchie (Hanover, Mass.) completed a three-point play with a layup and foul shot originating from a quick pass from Ariola at 2:30, bringing the Hawks 22 points ahead of Gordon, 42-20. Cahill hit a three-pointer with 52 seconds left in the half, but Vetere scored the last basket of the half with a layup, bringing the score to 45-24.
 
The Hawks continued to dominate the third quarter with relentless offensive drives. They also stayed aggressive defensively as the Fighting Scots struggled to find the hoop. Olivia Stark (Arvada, Colo.) scored two baskets for Gordon while Kaelyn Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) scored one for six total points in the quarter. The Hawks scored 17, leading the game 62-30. 
 
The fourth quarter remained slow for both teams. Olivia Riordan (S. Deerfield, Mass.) scored her first basket of the game for the Hawks with three minutes remaining, bringing the score to 68-33. Ryan landed a three pointer at 2:20 for Gordon, but the Hawks lead proved to be too great for the Fighting Scots to come back. The Hawks clinched the win, the final score 73-38.
 
Quilty finished with another double-double, going for 13 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocks. Katie Lowerre added 15 points and seven boards, while Ariola scored 12 points.
 
Ryan and Stark each scored ten points for Gordon in the game. Vetere finished with seven points and five rebounds off the bench.
 
On Tuesday, Roger Williams (4-4, 1-1 CCC) wraps up the semester at Western New England, while Gordon (3-4, 0-2 CCC) heads to Eastern Nazarene.
