Women’s Basketball takes down Endicott

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – On the team's Play4Kay game, the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team earned a 53-45 win over Endicott College Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference play.

Endicott showed strong ball movement early on against the Hawks' zone defense, finding the open person for shots often in the first half. In addition, the Gulls forced 12 first-half turnovers.

However, the Hawks still managed to keep their edge and hold off any long run by Endicott. The Gulls never led by more than three in the first half, while the Hawks managed to tie the game five times in the period.

EC's Kelsey Cuddy (Madison, Conn.) broke a 15-all tie with a layup at the 6:43 mark. Yet back-to-back layups by Lisa Lutz (Downers Grove, Ill.) and Teagan Dunn (Burlington, Conn.) helped regain the lead for RWU.

Though a Hannah Shaw (Bar Harbor, Maine) jumper later knotted the contest at 21, a 10-4 Hawk run to close out the half gave RWU a six point lead going into halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks kept the Gulls at arm's length, but were never able to full pull away from EC. An Alyssa Otis (Torrington, Conn.) layup at 11:41 put RWU up by ten (40-30) for their largest lead of the game. Yet a three by Katelyn Wright (Sudbury, Mass.) and a layup by Shaw brought the Gulls right back within five.

The RWU lead hovered between five and eight for most of the remainder of the half, before Kelsey Cuddy (Madison, Conn.) knocked down a three with 56.8 seconds left to make it a 45-49 game in favor of RWU. Fortunately for the Hawks, Rachel Battista (Johnston, R.I.) and Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) each knocked down a pair of free throws to build the lead back up to eight and push RWU to victory.

Battista led RWU with 12 points off the bench, along with three steals. Quilty finished with eight points, eight rebounds, and four blocks, while Lutz notched seven point and six boards.

Shaw finished just shy of a double-double for Endicott, going for 13 points and nine rebounds. Cuddy scored 12 with four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Nicole Catizone (Woburn, Mass.) chipped in with seven points and four steals.

On Tuesday, Roger Williams (15-6, 12-2 CCC) will host Curry, while Endicott (10-10, 6-7 CCC) welcomes Nichols.
