Women’s Basketball earns #3 seed in ECAC Tournament

DANBURY, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team has earned the #3 seed for the upcoming Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Women's Basketball Championship. The Hawks will take on the #6 seed, Brandeis University, Wednesday evening in a 6:00 p.m. matchup.

Roger Williams enters the tournament with an overall record of 19-7. The team finished in a tie for first place in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with eventual CCC champion University of New England. The Hawks earned the #2 seed for the conference tournament via tiebreaker, but fell to seventh-seeded Endicott College in the opening round. Junior guard Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) was named to the All-CCC First Team, while Head Coach Kelly Thompson was honored as CCC Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Brandeis comes into the ECAC Tournament at 13-12 after going 5-9 in the University Athletic Association. The Judges finished in fifth place in the UAA, closing out the regular season with a 62-71 loss to #19 New York University. Brandeis and Roger Williams squared off against each other early in the season, with the Judges edging the Hawks 73-71 back on November 19. The Judges lead the all-time series 2-5 against Roger Williams.
