Men’s Soccer wins over MIT in extra time

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team snapped a three-game skid with a thrilling 3-2 double overtime victory over MIT Wednesday evening.

The first half nearly ended scoreless before Tyler Kuchenbecker (Wellesley, Mass.) tallied his first goal of the season with just under two minutes to play in the period to give RWU a 1-0 lead entering halftime.

John Kramer (Glastonbury, Conn.) quickly tied the game for MIT shortly into the second half. Three minutes into the period, Kramer buried a shot for the Engineers to tie the contest at one.

However, he would not be done, taking a pass from Fernando Cunha (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and putting in a shot into the left corner to give MIT a 2-1 lead.

Charlie Mader (Scarborough, Maine) came through for the Hawks in the 70th minute, as he converted on the feed from Trevor Sparda (Scarborough, Maine) to tie the game.

In overtime, the Hawks were held without a shot, and managed only one shot on goal in the second OT period. However, it would be the only attempt that mattered. Sparda served up a throw-in to Jesse DiPietro (Woodbridge, Conn.), who headed in the golden goal for the Hawks.

Nick Nelson (Madison, Conn.) made four saves for RWU in the win, while Jake Amereno (Commack, N.Y.) had one save in the loss.

On Saturday, Roger Williams (3-3-0) hosts Eastern Nazarene while MIT (3-1-0) travels to Emerson.
