Back-to-back wins for Men’s Soccer

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team earned its first Commonwealth Coast Conference victory of the season with a 4-0 win over Eastern Nazarene College Saturday afternoon.

Although the start time of the game was delayed an hour due to travel issues, Roger Williams got off to a hot start, scoring the opening goal in the sixth minute of the game.

Trevor Sparda (Scarborough, Maine) launched a long pass from midfield to a streaking Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.). Janson sent a cross to the middle to Chris Chieffo (North Haven, Conn.), who angled a shot into the right corner for his first goal of the season.

The Hawk offense stayed aggressive early, nearly coming away with three goals in the first 15 minutes of action. Dan Kelly (Miller Place, N.Y.) almost scored another goal for the Hawks three minutes later, taking a nice touch pass from Janson. However, Kelly sent his shot just wide right of the net. Then in the 12th minute, Tyler Kuchenbecker (Wellesley, Mass.) got a great pass from Janson but sailed a wide-open attempt too high over the net.

The Lions had its first attempt of the game in the 28th minute. An RWU foul just outside the left side of the box set up a free kick for Jacob Mason (Southport, England), who sent his shot off of a Hawk defender and over the goal.

Roger Williams managed to add one more score before the end of the half. With just under three minutes left, Greg Logue (Scituate, Mass.) tapped a short pass to Rowan Hallahan (Old Lyme, Conn.) as he made his way towards the goal. Hallahan ripped a long shot from the right side and hooked it into the right corner to give RWU a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The Hawks added to the lead in the 52nd minute. Kelly stole the ball from an ENC defender off of a long pass into the RWU offensive half of the field. Kelly was able to chip it to the middle of the goal and put RWU on top 3-0.

RWU added its final goal of the contest in the 78th minute, with Greg Logue (Scituate, Mass.) passing the ball back to back to James Sheldon (Amherst, N.H.), who converted the attempt for his fourth goal of the year.

Nick Nelson (Madison, Conn.) picked up his second win of the season, making three saves in the shutout. Lion keeper Jameson McFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) also stopped three shots for Eastern Nazarene.

Roger Williams will head to Wheaton on Wednesday for a 4 pm matchup, while Eastern Nazarene travels to Becker on Monday.
