Men’s Soccer set down by Endicott

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – Endicott College won its fifth game in a row with a 1-0 victory over the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team Saturday afternoon.

In the 13th minute, Endicott's Diego Maillo (Plantation, Fla.) gave the Gulls an early 1-0 advantage. Shintaroh Itoh (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan) laid a pass back to Maillo up the middle. Maillo took possession and sent a shot to the left corner of the net.

From there, Endicott maintained control throughout the remainder of the half. The Hawk offense had difficulty getting into a rhythm. The Gulls held Roger Williams to only four shots in the period, with only one on goal.

In the second half, the Endicott defense continued to stymie the Roger Williams attack. The Hawks were held without a shot until the final five minutes of the game. From that point, Roger Williams began to put a bit more pressure on the Endicott defense, controlling the ball more than the team had done earlier in the game. Yet Endicott managed to hold the Hawks to that lone shot from Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.) and leave Bristol with the win.

The Gulls outshot the Hawks 19-5 on the day, including a 10-1 advantage in the second half.

Endicott keeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) needed only two saves in the shutout win. Nick Nelson (Madison, Conn.) took the loss, making one save with one goal allowed in the first half. Carsten Fredrickson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) had five saves for RWU in the second half in relief of Nelson.

Roger Williams (4-5-0, 1-2-0 CCC) heads to Rhode Island College on Wednesday, while Endicott (6-1-1, 3-0-0 CCC) hosts UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday.
