Volleyball takes two on second day of RWU Invite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball won two of the three matches on the second day of Roger Williams University Invitational, defeating Wheaton College 3-0 and Lasell College 3-0, but falling to #13 Clarkson 0-3.
 
In the Hawks' first match of the day against Wheaton College, RWU utilized its depth to come away with a convincing win. The Hawks held Wheaton -.010 hitting percentage on the day. In addition, the Hawks' serving gave Wheaton trouble, with RWU tallying 11 service aces in the match.
 
Freshman middle blocker Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) came away with seven kills, Sarah McAniff (Reading, Conn.) had six kills and senior outside Elizabeth Flaherty (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) led the Hawks with 8 kills. Nicole Weber (Poulsbo, Wash.) handed out 26 assists.
 
For Wheaton College, Deidre Wilson led the Lyons with seven kills to go along with two aces. Arieanna Crieghton and Elise Waelder both had four kills for the Lyons. Cari Sheets put up 13 assists while Olivia Wilson led the team with 14 digs.
 
In the second match, the Hawks faced off against #13th-ranked Clarkson, who gave RWU its toughest match of the weekend. Clarkson pulled ahead late in the opening set, taking the game 25-20. The Hawks went to three sets with the Golden Knights, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-16 with a hitting percentage of .266. Lauren Hutchinson hit a high of .455.
 
Flaherty led the hawks with 11 kills and eight digs. Weber had 26 assists and two services aces.
 
The Hawks finished the day out facing off against Lasell College and sweeping the Lasers 3-0 (25-13,25-18, 25-16). Quilty hit a match-high.667 while only playing two sets. Josalyn Benson (Phoenix, Ariz.) had 34 assists while freshman Nicki Fallisi (Salem, N.H.) had 12 digs and sophomore Meghan Smith led the team with 14 digs.
 
Lasell had a hitting percentage of .030. Taylor Lezzi led the team with three kills and a hitting percentage of .125.
 
Roger Williams (3-2) will host Connecticut College and Amherst College next Friday, Sept. 11th, for the Johnson and Wales Invitational.
