Women’s Basketball shuts down Nichols’ offense in win

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team moved back to .500 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 61-42 win over Nichols College Tuesday evening.
 
The early part of the game was marked by poor shooting by both teams. Roger Williams went 3-for-15 from the field in the first quarter, while the Bison connected on only three of their 17 attempts. RWU held a slim 13-9 edge at the end of the period.
 
The second quarter saw Nichols struggle from the field again, as the Bison were held to only three points for the first eight minutes of the quarter. Nichols found the stroke towards the end of the period, hitting three of the final five shots to pull within five at the end of the half (24-19).
 
The Bison shot better in the third quarter, going 5-for-11 from the field. However, the Hawks had the hot hand in the period as well, shooting .500 in the period (9-for-18). RWU outscored Nichols 21-17 in the period to increase the lead to 45-36.
 
Roger Williams used strong defense in the fourth quarter to put the game away. The Hawks held Nichols to only six points, with the Bison shooting a dismal 2-for-16 in the period.
 
Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) finished with a game-high 14 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks. Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) added 13 points and six boards, while Teagan Dunn (Burlington, Conn.) chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.
 
Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.) led Nichols with 12 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Brooke Packard (Dudley, Mass.) finished with 11 points and two steals, while Allison Cerrato (Rockland, Mass.) contributed three points and ten rebounds.
 
On Thursday, Roger Williams (5-5, 2-2 CCC) heads to Endicott while Nichols (1-9, 0-3 CCC) hosts Western New England.
