Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team earned its third straight victory after taking down Wentworth Institute of Technology 58-45 Saturday afternoon.
Both teams struggled shooting the ball early on, with Wentworth going 3-for-14 in the first quarter, while Roger Williams shot 6-for-17. RWU held a slim four-point lead (13-9) after the period, with both teams looking to improve offensively going forward.
Yet the second half saw the two squads continue to have difficulty sinking shots. Wentworth again only hit three shots from the field in the quarter, while RWU also connected on only six shots in the period. The Hawks outscored the Leopards 14-11 to take a 27-20 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, RWU stalled the Leopard offense, holding them to only 1-of-12 from the field. Fortunately for Wentworth went 9-for-10 from the line to keep the game relatively close. In addition, the Hawks only shot 4-for-17 in the quarter and outscored the Leopards by only two in the quarter. RWU held on to a nine-point margin going into the fourth quarter.
Wentworth fared better shooting in the final quarter, shooting 40% in the period. However, the deficit proved to be too much for the Leopards to overcome, with Roger Williams notching the double-digit win.
Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) scored a season-high 20 points to go along with seven rebounds.
Teagan Dunn (Burlington, Conn.) went for a double-double off the bench, scoring 12 points with 13 rebounds.
Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) and Carly Rogers (Scarborough, Maine) each finished with 14 points, with Rogers adding 11 rebounds. Rachel Camara (Fall River, Mass.) added ten points and 11 boards.
On Thursday, Roger Williams (7-5, 4-2 CCC) heads to Curry while Wentworth (4-8, 1-5 CCC) hosts Endicott.
