Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - Western New England University picked up a 1-0 road victory over the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team Saturday afternoon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game.

Western New England kept the pressure on the Hawks early on in the offensive half of the field. The Golden Bears continued to push into the Hawks' defensive half, but settled for long shots.

The Hawks were able to get a couple of clear shots on net in the first part of the period.
Tyler Kuchenbecker (Wellesley, Mass.) and
Colby Decker (Colchester, Conn.) each put up solid shots on target, but were both turned away by Golden Bear keeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.).

In the 23
rd minute, the Hawks had a good opportunity to score, with
Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.) sending a long pass down the right side to a streaking Kuchenbecker. He would bring the ball in the box and send a pass back to
John Ryan (Southbury, Conn.). Unfortunately for Ryan, he lost his footing as the ball approached him and took an off-balance shot wide left.

In the 31
st minute, Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) came within inches of scoring the first goal of the game for Western New England. He would head a pass into the ground to try to earn a bouncing-ball goal into the in the left corner. However, a jumping one-handed save by
Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) kept the Golden Bears off the board.

In the second half, Western New England ended the scoreless tie with a goal in the 60
th minute. Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) stole a pass intended for a Hawk player from about ten yards out of the box. He was able to catch the defense off-guard a launched a shot that just hooked into the right side of the net to give Western New England the 1-0 lead.

The Hawks had a great chance to tie the score in the 79
th minute. Kuchenbecker took the ball down the middle and sent a pass to his right to Janson. Janson brought the ball up and tried to hook a shot into the left corner, but was denied by Strobel.

RWU had another shot in the 86
th minute, when Ryan crossed a long pass into the middle of the box to Kuchenbecker. He got a clean header off but pushed it a bit too high and far right. That would be the last push for Roger Williams as WNE escaped with the win.

Strobel and Geschickter each finished the day with three saves apiece.

Roger Williams (3-10-1, 1-3-1 CCC) will be back in action on Wednesday at UMass-Dartmouth at 7:00 pm. Western New England (6-7-0, 3-2-0 CCC) travels to Springfield on Monday for an 11:00 am match.
