Women's Basketball Wins Ocean State Matchup With Salve

Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team picked up its fourth straight win with a 63-58 win over Salve Regina University Tuesday evening.

The Hawks were paced by team-high 17 points from Mariah Nicholas (Achusnet, Mass.) to go along with her seven rebounds. Katie Lowerre (Sharon, Mass.) finished with 15 points and three steals, while Anna Walther (Northampton, Mass.) added ten points and three boards.

Offense was hard to come by early on, as neither team was able to score over a seven-minute stretch in the first quarter. Emma Klis (East Northport, N.Y.) broke a six-all tie with a layup in the final minute to help RWU close out the quarter with a two-point lead.

The Hawks managed to take a six-point lead early in the second quarter. However, Salve made a run late in period, closing out the frame with an 8-3 run to take a five-point lead into halftime. The Seahawks held on to the lead throughout the third quarter before Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) sank one of two free throws in the final seconds to tie the game at 43 going into the final quarter.

The Hawks rallied from five points down in the final quarter to take the lead and maintain it over the final 90 seconds with timely free throw shooting and defense. RWU forced turnovers on two of the final four Seahawk possessions while going 6-for-8 from the charity stripe over that stretch.
