Box Score MEDFORD, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team won 8-5 on the road at Tufts in non-conference college baseball action Tuesday afternoon.
The win by the Hawks (10-11-1) ends a four-game losing streak and stops the Jumbos' (13-4) nine-game winning streak.
Senior CF
Jamie Timothy doubled and scored in the seventh and hit a two-run single in the eighth to help the Hawks towards the win.
Down 4-1, Tufts had tied the game with three unearned runs in the fifth. Oscar Kutch singled home Cody McCallum, who had reached by an error for the third time in the game with one out in the fifth. Tufts would continue to load the bases and Hawks starter
Sam Bennett hit Christian Zazzali with a pitch and walked Harry Brown to force home the other two runs.
Roger Williams would get one back in the sixth unearned before Timothy doubled and scored on a base hit by freshman catcher
Chris Bosco in the seventh for a 6-4 RWU lead. After a walk to
Kevin Baker and a double by
Shawn Cariglio in the eighth, Timothy singled to left scoring both for an 8-4 Hawks advantage.
Tufts would score one in the eighth, but left the bases loaded as Hawks' reliever
Ryan Havunen got a strikeout and a line out to short.
The Jumbos had scored first after sophomore 1B Nick Falkson led off the second with a single, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on a double to right-center by Tom Petry. Baker's two-run single in the third turned the game around for Roger Williams. He would score on a sac fly by Cariglio making it 3-1. The Hawks would add an unearned run in the sixth without a hit.
Timothy finished 3 for 4 with two rbis and a run while Cariglio was also 3 for 4, scoring and driving home a run. Baker scored twice and had two rbis while going 1 for 3. Bosco was 2 for 4 with a run and rbi each, while junior RF
Adam Dellemonico scored twice. The Hawks out-hit Tufts 13-6. Havunen earned the win with 4.1 innings of two-hit, one-run relief in which he struck out six.
Moser was the only Jumbo with two hits. Sid Warrenbrand took the pitching loss for Tufts.
The Jumbos welcome Trinity College for a NESCAC East Division series at Huskins Field this weekend starting with a single game Friday at 3. The Hawks host UMass-Boston tomorrow at 3:30.
