Women’s Basketball Grounds Gulls

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team improved to 9-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 62-44 win over Endicott College Tuesday evening.
 
Offense was hard to come by early on in the game. The Gulls jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on shots by Hannah Kiernan (Wenham, Mass.) and Gabriella Coppola (Watertown, Mass.) in the opening minute but would not score again until the 1:26 mark in the opening quarter. The Hawks would roll off ten straight points capped off by a Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) layup for a 10-4 advantage. Roger Williams would go into the second quarter leading 13-8.
 
The Hawks would continue to hold off the Gulls in the second quarter, maintaining a two-possession lead for most of the period. Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) gave RWU its largest lead of the game to that point with a pair of free throws at the 4:04 mark for a 24-16 Hawk lead. Roger Williams would go into the break still leading by eight (29-21).
 
The third quarter saw Roger Williams add to its lead, with timely shooting and strong defense. Endicott was held to only 4-of-13 shooting in the quarter, while Roger Williams went 7-of-13 from the field. Sam Leone (Ashland, Mass.) built the Hawk lead to 16 with a three-pointer with 46 left in the quarter. RWU ultimately went into the final quarter leading by 14 (47-33).
 
Endicott continued to struggle shooting in the fourth quarter, going only 3-for-14 from the field in the period. Conversely, Roger Williams had its best performance from the floor in the fourth, going 7-of-11 in the quarter. RWU led by as many as 26 before cruising to the 66-42 win.
 
Leone and Quilty each led Roger Williams with 13 points apiece, while Anna Walther (Northampton, Mass.) added 12 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Nicholas chipped in with 11 points and five boards off the bench.
 
Kiernan led EC with 15 points, while Coppola finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and a game-high six steals.
 
On Saturday, Roger Williams (11-4, 9-0 CCC) heads to Curry while Endicott (7-9, 6-3 CCC) hosts Eastern Nazarene.
