Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball maintained its hold at the top of the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 3-0 win over Gordon College Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks began the match with a 25-20 victory over Gordon in the opening set. Gordon stayed close to Roger Williams throughout the game, tying the game five times over the course of the set. However, the Hawks were able to pull away halfway through the match and eventually come away with the win.
The second set saw the Hawks pull away late for the 25-20 win. The game featured 12 ties and seven lead changes as both teams traded points back and forth early on. Roger Williams was able to get some breathing room late with an 8-3 run to make it a 23-18 lead.
Lara LoIacono (Lynbrook, N.Y.) would ultimately put away the game with a kill.
The third set was another tight one with 11 ties and six lead changes. Gordon trailed by four late before tying the set at 20 with help by a pair of Jamie Tafoya (Fort Collins, Colo.) aces. Amanda Synder (San Jose, Calif.) was able to stave off match point with a kill to make it 24 all. Yet
Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) pounded a kill for match point then combined with
Nicki Fallisi (Salem, N.H.) for a block to put the match away 26-24.
Grace Kenningham (Houston, Texas) finished the match with ten kills and nine digs, while LoIacono had nine kills and a season-high five aces.
Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) went for 29 assists with
Jill McManaman (Bellerose Village, N.Y.) adding five kills, two blocks, and two aces.
Snyder led the match with 12 kills while Mackenzie Hinds (Higganum, Conn.) finished with ten kills. Ashlyn Gergins (Murrieta, Calif.) had 29 assists and six digs. Jenny Curtiss finished with 13 digs.
On Wednesday, Roger Williams (15-6, 6-0 CCC) hosts Nichols, while Gordon (11-10, 2-4 CCC) will be at Eastern Nazarene.
