Box Score BRISTOL, R.I—The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team shut out the Nichols College Bison 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field.
The Hawks entered Saturday's conference matchup ranked sixth in the CCC standings with an overall record of 7-6-4 and a 3-3-1 conference record. Nichol's 2-5 CCC record put them in the eighth slot in the conference rankings.
The first shot of the game came from
Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.) in the 14
th minute for the Hawks. He had a good foot on the ball but it was directed straight at Bison goalie Juan Carlos De La Cruz.
The Hawks struck first on a
Charlie Mader (Scarborough, Maine) goal with 19 minutes left in the half. Janson took the corner kick and Mader received it in the middle of the box. He found the top left corner for his second goal of the season.
Bison midfielder John Lyndon received a yellow card which gave the Hawks a free kick. Off the kick, Mader grabbed his second goal of the day on a header in the 20
th minute.
Nichols tallied three shots in the first half and RWU had six. Both goalies had three saves but the Hawks secured a 2-0 lead.
Nichols seemed to control the ball more in the opening minutes of the second half and had five shots in the first 20 minutes. With 26 minutes left, Gregory Giglio took a penalty kick for the Bison but goalkeeper
Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) made a diving save to his left.
Janson finally got his first goal of the day in the 26
th minute on a breakaway goal on his sixth attempt of the day. This was his sixth goal on the season. The Hawks extended their lead to 3 goals to none.
Nick Nelson (Madison, Conn.) replaced Geschickter in the net for the Hawks with 10 minutes left. Geschickter finished the day with eight saves.
Neither team was able to score in the last minutes of the game, but the Hawks kept ball possession for most of the time.
With the 3-0 win, the Hawks moved to 8-6-4 overall and 3-3-1. Geschickter's goalie record improved to 7-4-2.
The Hawks will play their final regular season and CCC game against Eastern Nazarene College Tuesday, October 24 in Bristol, R.I.
