Volleyball Defeats ENC On Senior Day

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team set down Eastern Nazarene 3-0 in the team's final home match of the regular season.

Prior to the match, the Hawks honored its three seniors, Victoria Caruso (Yonkers, N.Y.), Meghan Chartier (Inverness, Ill.), and Meghan Smith (Blauvelt, N.Y.) for their contributions to the program.

The Hawks kicked off the match with a 25-16 win in the opening set. RWU rolled off four straight points to begin the game before building the lead to 8-2. Eastern Nazarene called a timeout to try to halt the run, but RWU came right back out with an 8-5 run, going up by nine and forcing another Lion timeout. Eastern Nazarene was unable to cut into the deficit, with RWU eventually claiming the win after a Lion serve was dumped into the net.

Roger Williams halted an early run by Eastern Nazarene to collect a 25-15 win in the second set. The Lions began the game with three straight points before eventually taking a 7-2 lead on a Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) kill. RWU would call timeout then rattle off six straight points to go ahead by one. The two sides traded points until the Hawks utilized a 6-0 run to turn an 11-10 lead to 17-10. That run would give RWU the cushion they needed to hold on for the win. Nicki Fallisi (Salem, N.H.) would put the set away with the clinching kill.

In the final set, Roger Williams pulled away quickly and never looked back. The Hawks scored four of the first five points and eventually took a 9-2 lead. Eastern Nazarene managed to pull within three (9-12) but could not come any closer. Roger Williams went on top 20-13, causing another ENC timeout. After the break, Fallisi later put the match away with a service ace for the 25-14 win.

Grace Kenningham (Houston, Texas) led the match with 14 kills on the day. Caruso led the Hawks with a career-high 27 assists, while Fallisi added six kills, four aces, and nine digs.

McCarthy finished with eight kills, two aces, and six digs for the Lions, while Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) had 11 assists and three digs.

Roger Williams (17-6, 8-0 CCC) wraps up the regular season next Saturday at Wentworth. Eastern Nazarene (10-16, 1-6) will also play Wentworth next on Tuesday.
