Men’s Soccer Downs Eastern Nazarene On Senior Day

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team closed out the regular season with a 5-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene College Tuesday afternoon.

Prior to the game, the Hawks honored their nine seniors, Nick Nelson (Madison, Conn.), Kyle Farabaugh (Northport, N.Y.), John McCarthy (Torrington, Conn.), Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.), John Ryan (Southbury, Conn.), Charlie Mader (Scarborough, Maine), Kabine Conde (Philadelphia, Pa.), Tyler Kuchenbecker (Wellesley, Mass.), and George Kolitsas (Middlebury, Conn.), for their contributions to the program.

Eastern Nazarene avoided letting up an early goal thanks to a heads-up save by Lion keeper Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.). In the second minute, Janson served up a great cross to Conde right in front of the goal. Conde had a shot from point-blank range but Eddings was able to get a hand on the ball and deflect the shot away.

The Hawks stayed active on the offensive end early on, putting up nine shots in the first 12 minutes of play. Eddings fared well, logging four saves to prevent RWU from getting on the board.

ENC's luck would run out in the 14th minute as RWU finally notched the first goal of the game. Farabaugh put up a shot that was blocked by a Lion defender back towards Kuchenbecker, who then put up a shot off of another Lion back. Farabaugh got the rebound and connected on the third attempt for RWU, scoring his second goal of the year.

Five minutes later, Janson added to the Hawk total. Janson used some fancy footwork to make his way around the Lion defense and down the left side. He put up a shot to the right corner that Eddings was able to get a hand on the ball, but not far enough away as it trickled into the right corner.

Mader would build RWU's lead to 3-0 in the 24th minute. Jordan Lach (Norton, Mass.) crossed a pass backwards to Mader about five yards outside the top of the box. He would slip a shot through the Lion defense and just inside the left post.

Nicholas Sanchez (Franklin, Mass.) tacked on the fourth goal of the half with just under two minutes left. Colby Decker (Colchester, Conn.) served up a corner kick to the far side of the post, with David Majetich (Williamstown, Mass.) heading a pass to Sanchez, giving him the chance to tap the shot in the left corner.

Eastern Nazarene was able to end the shutout in the 78th minute. Nabil Chamoun (Walpole, Mass.) curved a free kick towards the inside left post but was denied by RWU keeper James Lee (Sudbury, Mass.). His save would bounce towards Shawn Kerry (Hagaman, N.Y.) on the right side. Kerry would then launch a shot into the left corner of the net, putting the Lions on the board.

The Hawks would get the goal back in the 85th minute with Conde beating the keeper on a misplayed ball and pounding a shot into the open net.

Nelson claimed the win while Lee made the only save in the game for the Hawks. Eddings took the loss, stopping nine shots on the day.

Roger Williams (9-6-2, 5-3-1 CCC) will wait to find out their opponent in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinals, beginning on Saturday. Eastern Nazarene ends the year at 0-15-0 and 0-9-0 in conference play.
