SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team has earned the #6 seed for the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament
Endicott will enter the CCC Men's Soccer Championship as the No. 1 seed for the third year in a row after completing a 6-1-2 CCC (10-4-3 overall) season.
Three other quarterfinal matches will also take place on Saturday. No. 2 seed Gordon, No. 3 seed Western New England, and No. 4 seed Wentworth will host those matches. Gordon, which went 6-2-1 in the CCC (11-5-1 overall) captured the second seed on the final day of season, leapfrogging Western New England with a head-to-head victory. The Golden Bears also had a 6-2-1 league (11-6-1 overall) record, but loss the tiebreaker due to Tuesday's (Oct. 24) defeat at the hands of the Fighting Scots. The Leopards landed in the fourth spot with a 5-2-2 CCC (9-7-2 overall) record.
Gordon will match up against the No. 7 seed Nichols, which went 3-6 in CCC play (7-8-2 overall), at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Western New England draws No. 6 seed Roger Williams, which went 5-3-1 in league play (9-6-4), while Wentworth faces No. 5 seed Salve Regina, which also went 5-3-1 in the CCC (11-4-3 overall). Game time for the WNE-Roger Williams game is to be determined as the WNE women will also be hosting on Saturday. The Wentworth-Salve game will kick off at noon.
Tiebreakers were required to determine the bottom four seeds. The two Rhode Island teams both finished with 16 points in the standings, but the Seahawks earned the higher seed due to a head-to-head win in the regular season. The same scenario played out with the Bison and Nor'easters. Both teams collected nine points, but Nichols held the edge head-to-head and was awarded the higher seed.
The quarterfinal winners will meet in the CCC Semifinal round on Tuesday, Oct. 31. The winner of the Endicott-UNE match will play the winner of the Wentworth-Salve game and the Gordon-Nichols winner will face the WNE-Roger Williams winner.
The two semifinal winners will advance to compete in the CCC Men's Soccer Championship match on Saturday, Nov. 4. The winner of the title contest will be named the 2017 CCC Men's Soccer Tournament Champion and earn the conference's automatic qualifier into the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.
