Baseball Takes One Of Two From Bowdoin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LEESBURG, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team earned its first win of the season in a doubleheader split with Bowdoin College, falling 4-7 in the opener before notching a 5-0 shutout.

In the opener, Bowdoin began the game with a run in the first inning. Roger Williams tied the game back up at one in the bottom of the frame. Bryan Terzian (Westport, Conn.) scored Eli Camner (Hamden, Conn.) with a two-out RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, Joey Gulino (Meriden, Conn.) homered to left field to add another run in the Hawks' favor. Bowdoin tied the game in the top of the fourth off of an RBI double, then retook the lead in the following inning with a bases-loaded walk.

The Hawks would go back up by one in the bottom of the fifth, with Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J.) singling home Gulino and Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) for a 4-3 Hawk lead.

However, RWU's advantage wouldn't last, as the Polar Bears went up 5-4 on back-to-back RBI hits in the sixth, then added two more in the seventh for the win.

Dominguez and Sean Gaffney (Simsbury, Conn.) each went 2-for-3 in the game for RWU. Starter Justin Garcia (Foxboro, Mass.) struck out seven and allowed two runs in 3.2 innings in the no-decision.

In the second game, the Hawk offense went to work as the team cranked out 14 hits in the game. Eight of the nine RWU starters collected at least one hit in the game, with six players registering multiple hits.

Tyler Brett (Hebron, Conn.) pitched a gem, tossing six scoreless innings allowing only two hits, walking none and striking out nine.

Terzian finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, while Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Gulino had one hit, two runs scored, and an RBI.
