Baseball Drops Pair To Nichols

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - The Nichols College baseball team opened up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a pair of wins over Roger Williams Saturday. The Bison won Game 1, 1-0, before winning Game 2, 2-1.
 
This is the first time since 2010 that the Bison have opened up conference-play 2-0 since the 2010 season.
 
Game 1
Junior Nick Roy (Middletown, R.I.) swiped third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher in the bottom of the seventh to give the Bison a 1-0 walk-off win against the Hawks in Game 1.
 
Junior StigErik McElhinney (Dracut, Mass.) moved to 2-0 as he finished with the complete game shutout – allowing just four hits and three walks while striking out five.
 
The Bison were held to just three hits in the game – junior Cam Cook (Phoenixville, Pa.) had two of them. The only other hit was a single up the middle by Roy to start the seventh.
 
The Hawks only finished with four hits by four different student-athletes. Junior Jimmy Smith (Walpole, Mass.) pitched well but took the loss. He allowed just one run (not earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out four in 6.1 innings of work.

Game 2
Senior Adam Rigney (Niantic, Conn.) pitched the Bison's second complete game of the day and earned his third win of the season as the Bison defeated the Hawks 2-1 in Game 2 Saturday afternoon.
 
Rigney allowed just one run on three hits while striking out four through seven innings of work.
 
Sophomore Andrew Doll (Plantation, Fla.) hit a sac-fly to center field to score Roy in the sixth inning which proved to be the game-winner. Roy and senior Tim Ford (Stafford Springs, Conn.) finished the game with a pair of hits while five other student-athletes had hits for the Bison.
 
The Hawks were led by freshman Ryan McDermott (Wrentham, Mass.) who finished the game with a pair of hits and the lone RBI on a single to center in the seventh that scored sophomore Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.).
 
The Bison kicked off the scoring in the fifth inning when senior Matt Hardy (North Attleboro, Mass.) singled to right field to drive home freshman Christian Naccari (Ossining, N.Y.).
 
Sophomore Tyler Brett (Hebron, Conn.) took the loss – allowing two runs (both earned) on nine hits while striking out four.
 
This is the second-consecutive season the Bison have swept the season series against the Hawks and they have now tied the all-time series at, 25-25.
