Box Score 2 NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team fell to Salve Regina University Sunday afternoon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader by 0-1 and 3-8 margins.
Both teams were locked in a scoreless battle for most of the opener, with neither team able to plate a run over the first six innings. The Hawks were able to put the go-ahead run on third base in the fourth and sixth innings, but could not bring home the runner. Salve Regina finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out walk-off single by Riley Fusaro.
Jimmy Smith (Walpole, Mass.) took the hard luck loss, allowing one unearned run in 6.1 innings of work with four strikeouts.
Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.),
Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J.), and
Tyler Brett (Hebron, Conn.) each had a hit for Roger Williams in the game.
In the nightcap, Salve Regina scored a run in the second inning and two more in the bottom of the third. The Hawks got back two of the runs in the top of the sixth on a
Bryan Terzian (Westport, Conn.) homerun and
Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) coming in on a throwing error at third. However, the Seahawks came back with five runs in the bottom of the frame to go up by six. RWU got one run in their final at-bat as Salve Regina held on for the win.
Ryan McDermott (Wrentham, Mass.) finished 2-for-4 at the plate, while Terzian and
Chris Bosco were each 1-for-4 with an RBI. Brett took the loss, giving up eight runs (four earned) in 5.1 innings.
Roger Williams (5-13, 0-4 CCC) will host Wentworth on Monday afternoon.
