Endicott Hands Loss To Men’s Soccer

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team suffered its first Commonwealth Coast Conference loss Saturday afternoon, falling 0-4 to CCC rival Endicott College.

Endicott wasted little time jumping out to the early lead. The Gulls notched the first score of the game less than two minutes into the contest. Bobby Ivatts (Walpole, Mass.) sent a long pass from the right side to the middle of the box. The ball bounced backwards off of a Hawk defender but right back towards Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio). He would kick a shot into the left corner of the goal to put Endicott up 1-0.

The Hawks appeared to have scored the equalizer in the seventh minute. Jordan Lach (Norton, Mass.) sent a beautiful pass off of a free kick to the back left side of the penalty area.  John McCarthy (Torrington, Conn.) made a great diving header on the ball and scored what looked like RWU's first score of the game. However, the Hawks were called for offsides to take the score off the board.

Then again in the 11th minute, RWU had another chance to tie the game. Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.) found Michael Oliveira (Waterville, Maine) on the right side. He would cross a pass to the middle to a cutting Tyler Kuchenbecker (Wellesley, Mass.). Kuchenbecker tried to tap a shot over the keeper, but sent it just a bit too high over the goal.

Endicott later responded with two quick goals in a two-minute span. In the 28th minute, Couchot brought the ball down the right side and sent in a pass to Robert Hartan (Walpole, Mass.). Hartan was able to hook the ball into the left corner for a 2-0 Gull lead. Then in the 30th minute, Jamie Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) took a throw-in from Tyler Johnson (Carver, Mass.) and knocked in a goal to send Endicott to a 3-0 lead.

The Gulls' scoring continued in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Jesse Martinez (Walpole, Mass.) kicked a pass to Couchot by the middle of the field about 35 yards out. He would launch a long shot that would find its way into the top shelf for his second score of the game.

Brandon Rosenbaum (Locust Valley, N.Y.) made two saves in 45 minutes of action for the win. Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) had four stops in the loss.

Roger Williams (5-2-2, 1-1-0 CCC) will be back in action tomorrow at home against Johnson & Wales. Endicott (5-1-1, 2-0-0 CCC) hosts WPI on Tuesday.
