Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball dropped a pair of matches to two nationally-ranked opponents Saturday afternoon, falling 0-3 to #9 Juniata and #24 Christopher Newport.
In the opener against Juniata, the Hawks fell in the opening set by a 19-25 score. The Hawks were down early on but came back to tie the match at 11 apiece. An 8-5 run by Juniata helped the Eagles pull away en route to the win.
The second set saw both teams trade 3-0 runs to open up the match. Juniata answered with four straight points to lead. RWU ultimately came back towards the end of the match to tie the game at 23 apiece. However back-to-back points gave Juniata the 25-23 win.
Two big runs by Juniata helped the Eagles towards the win. Juniata scored six of the first seven points in the opener, then later followed that with a 5-0 run to take a 17-9 lead. The Eagles would eventually take the final set 25-17 for the win.
Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) led RWU with eight kills, while
Lara LoIacono (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and
Maddie Neuberger (Remsenburg, N.Y.) each finished with seven kills.
Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had 25 assists and
Meghan Chartier (Inverness, Ill.) had 12 digs.
Against Christopher Newport, Roger Williams fell in the opening set by a 25-12 margin. Christopher Newport would take the following two sets by 25-14 and 25-12 scores. The Hawks hit well in the match, hitting at a .260 clip for the day. However, Christopher Newport fared better on the offensive end, going for 41 kills and a .413 hitting percentage in addition to eight service aces.
LoIacono, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, had eight kills and a pair of digs. Quilty also finished with eight kills in addition to four blocks (3 solo, 1 assist). Fields has 12 assists with
Grace Kenningham (Houston, Texas) adding two kills and six digs.
