Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent University of New England 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Sean
Janson (Avon, Conn.) opened the scoring for Roger Williams in the
20th minute, curving a 19-yard free kick into the upper right corner.
Moments after an RWU attempt clanked off the crossbar, the Nor'easters (2-9, 1-2 CCC) knotted things up when Cody Kennedy (Millbury, Mass.) and Callum Heaslewood (London, England) connected for a give-and-go spanning 60 yards, with Heaslewood ultimately slipping a pass between several defenders and Kennedy ripping a high shot into the far side of the frame.
The Hawks (6-4-2, 2-1 CCC) regained the lead with the help of a lengthy throw-in to the middle of the box by
Lucas Watt (Cumberland, Maine) and a soft header away from the cage by
Kabine Conde (Philadelphia, Pa.) that bounced perfectly into the stride of
Connor Edwards (Deerfield, Mass.).
Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) turned in three stops for the Hawks. He moved to 5-2-1 on the season.
The Hawks travel to Bridgewater, Mass. Tuesday to take on the Bridgewater State University Bears in a non-conference matchup.
