Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team logged a 70-60 win over in-state rival Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Salve Regina University.
The Hawks were led by
Anna Walther (Northampton, Mass.), who paced RWU with 25 points and seven rebounds.
Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) finished with 17 points and eight boards, while
Teagan Dunn (Burlington, Conn.) added ten rebounds and three blocked shots.
Salve got on the board first before RWU eventually went back on top on a three-pointer by Walther. Her basket would give RWU a 5-4 lead that the team would hold on to for the remainder of the quarter. Dunn knocked down a jumper one minute into the second period to build the Hawk lead to five, their largest to that point.
Kerri Beland hit a shot to make it 28-26 in favor of Salve Regina for their first lead since the first points of the game. However, RWU would hold Salve scoreless over the final three minutes of the half to take a 30-28 lead into halftime.
The Hawks used a 7-2 run over the opening two minutes of the third for a seven-point advantage. That cushion would be enough to hold the Seahawks at bay for the rest of the game. Salve would not come closer than six for the rest of the game as RWU held on for the win.
Roger Williams (9-3, 3-2 CCC) will head to Endicott on Saturday.
