Women's Tennis Comes From Behind In Quarterfinals

BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams Women's Tennis team had an amazing come from behind 5-3 victory against Salve Regina on a Wednesday afternoon.

During doubles play, RWU's No. 2's Riley Spillane (Easton, Mass.) / Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) fought hard for a 8-1 victory against opponents Abigail Burke (Harwich, Mass.) /Darcy Carlin (Brewster, N.Y.).

Going into the singles matchups, Roger Williams was down 2-1 due to a defeat from Salve's No. 1's Lauren Harvey (Edmond, Okla.) /Makenzie Sadler (Mystic, Conn.) and No. 3's Anna Godshalk (Orleans, Mass.) /Erin Stangel (Old Saybrook, Conn.).

In singles play however, the Hawks stepped it up a notch and took down Salve with a victory from Tanya Gianitsos (Old Saybrook, Conn.), Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.), Roche, and Spillane to capture the five wins of the day.  

Freshman Gianitsos was the first Hawk to reach success against Salve's Carlin with another score of 6-1, 6-1. Crimmins match with Stangel ended second with a score of 6-1, 6-1. RWU's Roche also recorded a win during her singles match against Salve's Sadler 7-5, 6-2.  Finally, Spillane came in clutch to produce the last win that the Hawks needed with a triumph of 6-4, 6-2 against Burke.

The Hawks move on to the Semifinals against Nichols on Tuesday October 16th and from there we see who moves on to the CCC Finals.
