No. 1 Seed Takes Down Women's Tennis

DUDLEY, Mass.—The Roger Williams Women's Tennis team took on Nichols College and lost 9-0 on a Tuesday afternoon.

During doubles play, Nichols' No. 3's Alanna Judd (Westborough, Mass.) and Lindsey Kaplan (Boca Raton, Fla.) finished first with an 8-2 victory over Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.) and Libby Bennett (Watertown, Conn.).

The No. 1's were the next to finish but Amarie Settiwongse (Bangkok, Thailand) and Isabelle Leonardi (North Hamptom, N.H.) defeated RWU's Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) and Jess Magliato (New Rochelle, N.Y.) 8-1.

However, the matchup between Hawks' Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Riley Spillane (Easton, Mass.) and Bison's Megan Nathanson (Scarborough, Maine) and Rachel McDonald (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was extremely close both sides battling to a 8-6 triumph for Nichols.

Heading into singles play, the score was 3-0 with Nichols leading the way. The next two players to complete their matches were RWU's Martin and Nichols' Settiwongse and Roche against Judd. Settiwongse's match ended with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat and Judd finished with a score of 6-1, 6-0.

Coach Barry Gorman states, "I thought it was a good season for our team especially because of how young we were. Our freshman got some great match experience and were able to adjust to the level of college tennis. A lot of different people stepped up for us throughout the season and we are looking forward to the spring!"

That concludes the 2018 Season for the Women's Tennis team but they will play again in Florida in the spring.
